About
For a number of years I had studied Qigong, Yoga, and different types of meditation. Although I had a friend who practiced Reiki, I did not have any serious interest in it or an opportunity to take classes. Then in 2018, a serious medical issue prompted me to seek out Reiki as an adjunct therapy. The practitioner invited me to take her Reiki I & II classes. I took the classes, expecting only to use it for myself and my pets.

Keslee
In the following weeks, Keslee and I got to know each other. Although she had a human caretaker for eight years, I knew she was feral. She gradually began to lie down near my feet as I worked on the computer. One day she jumped up on my lap. She only looked out the window, turned around a couple of times, and jumped down, but it was amazing progress for her.
A few months later, I had some items to donate to the local animal shelter. When I looked at their Facebook page to get the phone number, I found myself drawn in by the eyes of a cat featured on the page. Keslee had been in the shelter for four months and no one had shown any interest in her.
The next day I took the items to the shelter, and asked to meet her. She was in a small room by herself. When I offered her a piece of chicken, she scratched and bit me, climbed to the top of her cat tree, and hissed at me. I told the staff to make out the adoption papers, and I would pick her up the next day.
"Here at The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, Keslee has won the Grumpiest Cat Award ... although she insists she is just misunderstood."
Then one morning when she did not come out to eat her food, I found her unresponsive with labored breathing. I rushed her to the vet where it was determined she had a serious heart problem and would not survive. She had been with me for six and a half months.
The sudden loss of Keslee upset me so much that I decided to try to help animals who had longer than the usual stays at the shelter by sending them Reiki. After a few weeks, I started calling and talking to the staff about animals that were stressed or had medical issues. The staff was surprisingly open to the idea of Reiki energy.
A friend then suggested I take a new animal Reiki course designed by the International Center for Reiki Training. I was soon certified in Animal Reiki I & II. A few months later I became a Certified Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki Master.
A short time after, the same friend suggested it might be time to expand my practice making the healing energy available to more animals. Thus it became clear this is the path I am to follow.
